About us. John L. O'Brien & Company, PLLC was organized on September 30, 1961. The two founding members of this firm, John O’Brien and Frank Christensen, are still active today in the firm lending their vast experience and guidance to the rest of the firm. We are members of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants.

What we do. Our primary focus is on delivering the highest quality audit services possible. By far, the majority of our audits are on not-for-profit organizations. This is the area of expertise that we have developed since our very inception and it is where we can offer our clients tremendous value. In addition, we have extensive experience in performing high quality audits of state and local governments.

The mission. From the very beginning, the company has had an involvement in auditing not-for-profit organizations and today these special organizations represent the majority of audit work the firm does. The mission is to deliver the highest quality and most efficient audit services to the not-for-profit community.

With over forty years of experience in auditing not-for-profits, we have the unique ability and the know how to deliver expert work with the efficiency that comes only from decades of experience.

A commitment. Our firm has a commitment to serving the needs of not-for-profits that extends over forty years. Not-for-profit organizations have special needs that are different from for-profit organizations and it takes experience to learn and understand those needs. Few firms have the experience that we have developed in auditing not-for-profits. Most CPA firms usually have many other audit and tax services that they perform and as a result, they do not have the expertise and efficiency that we have developed in not-for-profits. It takes a commitment to understand and serve the needs of the not-for-profit community. We have that commitment.

Not-for-profits are very special organizations. Although generally small in terms of assets, not-for-profits perform wonderful works every day, helping those who need it most. These are truly special organizations, and we have spent over forty years being involved as their auditors. We are very proud of that relationship.
